Siam was a land home to a diversity of cultures, which were harmoniously interwoven in the society. Each had their own cultural identity, as portrayed by the dancers in Chini’s paintings. With great interest, the artist contemplated, observed and recorded those dancers and their beautiful movement which were before him. He would paint keeping details of costumes, accessories, and specific movements in order to convey distinct social and cultural origins. By way of aesthetics, these female dancers uncover a cultural metropolis which existed more than a hundred years ago.
